“I feel strongly that the things we collect/buy/accumulate throughout our lives can often be representations of memories or events that are important to us. I think that we also gravitate towards things that “speak to us”, things that are relatable and that we subconsciously choose to represent us.”

Graphic Design / Mixed Media
Ashya creates chaotic abstractions as a way to process their thoughts and lived experiences. In Cohort 3, they utilized mixed media collages to explore the complexities of generational trauma stemming from political oppression of Filipino migrants and the beauty of collective resistance. Currently, they are making flyers for local musicians as a side gig, but will be leaning into expressing darker emotions on themes of power, violence, mental illness, and death for their future personal projects.
